iTEAM from UPV presents virtual tours and Digital Twins at the Valencia Digital Summit 2024
The Institute of Telecommunications and Multimedia Applications (iTEAM) of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) was one of the key participants at the Valencia Digital Summit 2024, an event that brought together leaders in technological innovation. iTEAM showcased two interactive demonstrations that combined Virtual Reality (VR) and Extended Reality (XR), offering attendees the opportunity to experience firsthand the future of immersive technologies.
Virtual tour of the Immersive Communications Laboratory
One of the most acclaimed attractions was the virtual tour of the iTEAM Immersive Communications Laboratory. Equipped with virtual reality headsets, attendees could explore a precisely designed 3D environment that recreated the laboratory in great detail. This experience not only transported the user to the virtual space but also provided a unique connection to the real world.
Thanks to real-time transmissions from the laboratory cameras, participants were able to observe some of the actual activities taking place in the physical environment, projected within the virtual experience. In addition, volumetric capture technology allowed for the inclusion of a real-time 3D hologram of the laboratory technician, who interacted with the virtual environment in a synchronized manner. This innovative fusion of reality and virtuality fascinated attendees, showcasing how immersive technologies can transform the way we interact with spaces.
Data visualization on the UPV-iTEAM private 5G network
The second demonstration allowed participants to explore the performance of the private 5G network installed on the UPV campus. Using Meta Quest 3 headsets and advanced photogrammetry techniques, a digital twin of the real infrastructure was recreated, where users could view real-time KPIs and conduct remote performance tests, such as uplink and downlink. This solution, supported by “Network as Code” and CAPIF interfaces, stood out not only for its accuracy but also for its remote management capability, enabling a more efficient and optimized deployment under the supervision of experts.

Both demonstrations highlighted iTEAM’s commitment to technological innovation and its ability to develop immersive solutions with practical applications in research, telecommunications, and infrastructure management. The audience at the Valencia Digital Summit 2024 not only had the opportunity to try out these experiences but also glimpsed how Virtual and Mixed Reality are transforming the way we understand and use technology in everyday life.
