The IMAGINE-B5G project aims to create an advanced, secure, and accessible Beyond 5G (B5G) end-to-end (E2E) communication platform for large-scale testing and pilots across Europe.

Its focus is to empower various vertical industries such as media, education, smart agriculture, eHealth, and transportation to experiment with advanced 5G technologies like immersive holographic communications, haptics, and telepresence.

By integrating the latest network advancements (3GPP Rel-16, Rel-17, and beyond), IMAGINE-B5G seeks to foster a future-ready ecosystem that supports advanced 5G applications and use cases across various sectors.

The project leverages existing 5G infrastructures and adds novel features for next-generation applications, combining:

  • Network positioning
  • Automated orchestration
  • Edge computing
  • IoT solutions
  • mmWave frequencies

IMAGINE-B5G will create a unified European platform that will support industry-specific use cases and provide open access to new partners through open calls.

CHALLENGE // OBJECTIVE

The main objectives of IMAGINE-B5G are:

1. Develop an advanced B5G platform:
Build a large-scale, secure 5G E2E deployment capable of supporting vertical use cases across Europe, integrating public and private networks for various applications.

2. Innovative onboarding to the platform:
Attract external developers and partners through open APIs, allowing them to integrate vertical applications and enrich the platform with new technological solutions.

3. Facilitate large-scale trials:
Conduct pioneering trials and pilots that validate the technical performance of advanced 5G solutions and B5G applications, such as extended reality (XR), haptics, and holographic communications.

4. Maximize social and business impact:
Define and evaluate key social and business value indicators (KVIs) while testing new business models that ensure sustainable adoption and commercial viability of the platform.
