Description

The current education system faces multiple challenges related to student motivation and engagement. With increasing digitalization and access to information, there is an urgent need to adapt teaching techniques to new technologies to maintain student interest and improve academic performance. In this context, immersive learning emerges as an innovative solution capable of significantly transforming the teaching-learning process for specific subjects and topics by offering more dynamic and immersive educational experiences.

This Educational Innovation and Improvement Project promotes the introduction of immersive solutions in classrooms to enhance students’ ability to understand certain concepts and help teachers explain educational topics more visually, making complex subjects easier to grasp.

CHALLENGE // OBJECTIVE

The general objective of the Immersive Classroom project is to validate the use of the iTEAM Immersive Communications Laboratory for immersive teaching in different degrees at the UPV, positioning the university as a leader in immersive educational innovation.

The specific objectives include:

  1. Technically validate different immersive teaching solutions.
  2. Identify subjects and courses from various degrees at UPV that could benefit from this methodology.
  3. Create scripts for immersive teaching.
  4. Develop content for immersive teaching.
  5. Deliver and assess immersive classes at UPV with the participation of students.

IMPACT ON SOCIETY

Immersive experiences in the educational field bring significant advancements both in students’ understanding of content and in current teaching methodologies. Some of these advancements include:

  • Access to experiences and places that are otherwise inaccessible: They allow students to visit and explore remote, dangerous, or historical sites that would otherwise be unreachable.
  • Fostering creativity: Thanks to the clear, quick, and effective visualization of educational content.
  • Greater assimilation of complex knowledge: Through the recreation of situations in virtual environments.
  • Support in practical training: Offering experiences based on active learning.

APPLICATIONS

Immersive learning is an educational approach that uses advanced technologies to create highly interactive and immersive learning experiences.

It is characterized by the use of tools and technological resources that allow students to immerse themselves in virtual environments, whether realistic (simulated) or fictional.

These experiences are primarily visual and auditory, although they can also be tactile through haptic devices. Immersive realities (VR, AR, XR) have the potential to significantly enhance learning in specific cases, not only generating a sense of immersion in each environment but also allowing the manipulation of 3D digital objects.
